Just wanted to report that my last email from Argon40 team in mid December said they were pushing back the release of the UPS to Q1 (January 1 - March 31) of 2025. However, it’s now well past the half-way mark of Q1 and the UPS still hasn’t gone live on the website.
I would love to know what the hold-up is and why it’s taking them so long. Obviously this product is not without issues given their reluctance to deem it ready for prime-time sales.
We are very close to releasing the UPS. Since the inception of the project, our team has evolved the design from a simple concept to a feature-rich product, staying true to the thoughtful and practical approach that characterizes Argon Products. We have now locked in the design and are preparing to begin the first production batch. All necessary certifications for the battery and the product have been completed. We anticipate releasing the product by early Q2
Glad to hear you’re getting closer to completion. If early Q2 is referencing April 1 to mid May, we should see this in less than a month.
One question I’ve asked repeatedly in emails about over the past year(but have not been answered): Is this going to be able to directly power the pi5 RTC?
I would think it would need a dedicated connector and there doesn’t appear to be a way to access that without modifying the rPi case.
I think you guys missed the boat on the form factor of the UPS. I would have liked to see a more integrated solution with your existing product. Maybe the same form factor as the ArgonOne V3 M.2 case, with a connector on the top of the UPS and a modified plastic shell for the bottom of the M.2 case so when you stack the two together they have a mating connection. Instead this looks like a USB battery bank that you can connect via USB cable to the back of the pi case.
I would guess you were designing this to match the V5 case instead of the V3 M.2 case?
