Argon One Up - Shell problem, Ubuntu problem, or me problem?

Hi all,

For anyone who’s tried Ubuntu on their Argon One Up, your help is appreciated. My understanding is that my issues are uncommon, because I’m not seeing others talk about them.

I started with Pi OS Trixie and it seemed to work fine. After a while I was very curious to see how Ubuntu runs off 16gb of ram and an NVME. I’ve tried flashing both 24.04 LTS and 25 directly to the SSD using rpiboot and while Pi imager completes and verifies, I’ve had major issues it seems like with both.

With 25, after startup completes, apps disappear after boot, and app center won’t open. This seems to be an issue with snap, because when I run the updater and try to install the 210 updates and it fails (hanging on snapd) and then none of the fix commands seem to work (I’ve tried to look up all the various sudo apt update things I could do to get it to complete, it just tells me something is running, even after a restart).

For 24.04 LTS, I don’t have that issue with app center, but I’m not sure the updater is running correctly. Despite reports that it works on Ubuntu, I can’t get Jeff gehrliss’ battery script to work because the necessary dependencies refuse to install. I’ve searched to see how people resolve these it seems to be I’m the only one running into them? Everyone just says run the command I’m trying to run but when I run it, I get an error that says basically update my OS but when I do it says nothing to update.

I REALLY like how Ubuntu looks, especially 25, and all I really want is the ability to web browse and run some simple apps. What am I doing wroooooong? Help appreciated.

Ok, preemptive nevermind. I reflashed 25.10 again, and after reading about how it can take minutes for snap to load on Pi5, I wait minutes after first boot before trying to run anything or update. And this time, I’m happy to say, everything works. Not only does everything work, but I even got the community created battery script going and impressively on Ubuntu it just auto appears:
